Team Member POV: Ali & Vincent

I originally met Lacey over some tea and macaroons at Aroma Cafe. We talked about the wedding industry and I picked her brain about her passions. She’s been interning with Amber Events ever since. What a great addition to the team. Thanks Lacey for taking time to fill this out.xo! {nira}

How did you learn about Interning or Assisting for Amber Events?

I went online and searched for companies affiliated with the wedding industry and Amber Events was one of the highest ranked.

Tell us about yourself and how it relates to the wedding industry.

I currently work full time and have been looking for a career change for a while now. I absolutely love throwing parties that involve little details, lots of friends and great memories so it just seems right to go into wedding industry.

What tasks did you complete for this wedding?

I helped set up the ceremony site which included placing personalized sunglasses at each guests seat, setting up the gift table, posting signs where needed, placing table cloths, checking on seating arrangements, making sure the reception timeline ran smoothly and helping any other way I could.

What surprised you?

How much fun every single person had. Everyone was laughing, intermingling and dancing the whole night even though some guests didn’t speak English and many guests flew in from out of town and didn’t know each other.

What is your favorite part of this wedding?

Seeing the final outcome of the ceremony and reception site. All the hard work of set up was well worth it.

What shoes did you wear?

All black flats.

The uniform for the Amber Events staff is a black button down shirt and slacks. What did you do to Jazz up your look?

I wore a few pieces of jewelry to amp things up and wore vibrant eye makeup.

What is your favorite wedding/romantic scene from a movie?

Definitely has to be the “Notebook”. When Rachel McAdams runs and jumps into Ryan Goslings arms while it’s pouring rain! It’s so romantic and their chemistry is amazing.

Do you have any words for anyone wanting to join the wedding industry? It’s a lot of hard work, but the final outcome is extremely rewarding once you see how happy the couples are.

Final Comments:

I am so happy to be able to work with Amber and Nira! Both ladies have a never-ending wealth of knowledge about All Things Weddings.

Wedding Websites and your privacy

I have saying that goes: “forget diamonds, GOOGLE is a girl’s best friend”as I Google everyone I know and I tend to find out some fairly juicy stuff.  In fact, before I meet with potential clients I just google their first names + weddings and many, many times I find their wedding website and I browse around there for a while. While it will take away some of my nosy fun, I mean this when I say: password protect your wedding websites, people! Why are you showing all of that information to the world?  There is an evil yet brilliant app called “Crash Corsage” that allows people to find out all info about the wedding that they can crash: location, time, name of bride & groom, name of their bridal party, etc.

I doubt your wedding crashers would be as fun as these guys…

Engagement Session Advice

I’m a huge, huge proponent of engagement sessions prior to your wedding as if gives you and your fiance a chance to experience what it’s like to be the focus of a camera’s attention for long periods of time, helps you bond with your photographer, let’s you try out your hair & makeup prior to the big day, and gives you gorgeous photos of you and your love.

Photographer Jasmine Star has some aaaaamazing tips on how to prep for your engagement photo session, and if I may be so bold as to add one more tip to hers? Booze. Have a drink before your session so you can really loosen up in front of the camera.

Kayte and Brian Engagement shoot

These days I see so many engagement sessions styled within an inch of their lives: entire living rooms set up in fields, elaborate staging, major period costuming (i.e., Mad Men) and while there is nothing wrong with that type of drama if you are genuinely that dramatic of a couple,  in my opinion all you really need is LOVE.

Lately the summer brides are having their engagement photo shoots and stressing a bit much over what kind of “theme” to have for these sessions as the wedding blogs can sometimes make them feel like they have to do that. These few photos of one of our summer couples, Katye & Brian, completely prove that you just need each other, a great photographer, and good light.

How romantic are these photos? Kudos to Brandon-David Photography and Kayte & Brian for being so in L-O-V-E.

Next post: some tips on how to be comfortable in front of the camera for these sessions.

Amber Events featured on Christine Chang’s Photo Blog

What a lovely surprise to see an Amber Events shout out on Christine Chang’s Blog! Christine is a phenomenal photographer who features video tutorials and advice columns for brides and budding photographers alike. We had the pleasure of going to Mexico with her for Mark & Jessica’s wedding. It was nice to see her unwind as guest for that one.  She deserves it. This is a hard working gal! Thanks CC!
